Level 2 Completed

I just finished Level 2! I noticed my son was still wanting to play the game but was getting kind of bored so I added a new level, the cave/mine. I toyed with the lighting in this one to get the underground feel which led to updating the lighting for everything. Getting a large amount of glowing objects presented some interesting challenges but as a result, the coins now glow as intended!

The lighting updates and changes to the coins changed the overall feel of the game in my opinion, which was a little shocking at first, but now I think it is actually more attractive to a two year old with the brighter colors and glowing objects to draw attention to the objectives. My son hasn't had too much interest in collecting the coins just yet, but maybe the new glow will change that.

I had alot of plans for the layout and design of level 2 (both level design and artistic), but I ended up leaving it pretty much the same. I was very surprised by how much a new level changed the feel without any changes to the platform/coin orientation. Also, I think alot of the effort I put in would go to waste as my son doesn't really focus on the little details of the game yet. His favorite part of level 1 is seeing the bear and the fox so a new game play pattern would probably go unnoticed/appreciated. For now I will try to temper my objectives to the needs of my audience so I dont burn myself out or get discouraged.

For now, I am excited to see how my son likes the new level. I think the choice between the 5 characters and 2 levels will give him alot of reasons to want to keep playing and if it's a hit like I think it might be, I am motivated to make some more!
